Business Writing Skills
Comprehensive Training

Proceeding through the Training

Proceed through the training by clicking on the "Training" buttons in the left column. When you complete one guideline (such as "Follow e‑mail protocol"), continue to the next ("Set goals"). Continue through the guidelines until you have finished them all.

The training includes skills relevant to e‑mails, memos, letters, and reports. The first guideline to the left pertains to e‑mails. If you are not interested in focusing on e‑mails, you might browse through that guideline briefly and go on to spend more time with the general guidelines or guidelines for another specific area, such as reports. You decide how much time you want to spend on each skill.

Fill out the forms at the ends of the guideline explanations to notify your instructor that you have completed the lesson. Some of the guidelines have practice activities. Complete the practice activities and put in your instructor's e‑mail address so the activities go automatically to him or her.

To avoid losing your activity if you are interrupted in the middle of working on it, you might consider doing your writing in Microsoft Word and then pasting it into the activity.

NOTE: When you type information into an answer blank on a lesson page, you must click on the "Submit" button before going to another page. That sends the information to the instructor. If you go to another page before clicking "Submit," the information you have typed on the page will be lost.

Embedded in the sequence of explanations are four competency examinations requiring you to demonstrate your ability to use the skills taught in the explanations. Complete them as explained in the materials.
